I am no expert on middle eastern enmities,
Your coment notwithstanding, it seems that Syria
is the perfect place for him to go. I takr it that you think you are. <G>

I neither am (nor claim to be) an expert. It doesn't take an expert to realize the obvious. The enmity between the Syrian and Iraqi Baath parties is a long standing (since the 1960s) feud. Hence, unless you were speaking ironically, your statement that "Syria is the perfect place for him to go" is totally inaccurate.

Nevertheless, you seemed to have missed my point completely.
It was that he is not suicidal and that there is a good chance that there will be some attempt at a deal. This can affect the market.

Not only did I not miss your point, I commented on this matter earlier. He is unlikely to leave without guaranties of no prosecution (a la Slobodan Milosevic). If it becomes known that he is negotiating, his risk of assassination skyrockets. Time is running out. A decision needs to be made by the March 3rd New Moon. So completely secret, delicate negotiations need to be concluded promptly.

Possible, but increasingly unlikely. And in any event Syria is not the perfect place.
