I've heard different stories on whether they're locked. Some may just not have gone through the entire process of actually placing an order so they assume that the sell order would be accepted and executed.
Best thing you can do if you want to sell next week without waiting for the new shares to show up in your account is to call your broker and ask if it's possible and what the risks are you take in doing so.
