#1205 RE: Bob Zumbrunnen #1202

Bob, your track analysis is consistent with mine.

"What do you think of that kink shortly after 3? In the aerial view, I'm thinking straightaway if you hug the right side going in and either use the berm on the left side in the kink or just barely flinch going through there."

At first glance it looked very much like one of those

"The faster you go, the slower you go"

trick sections track designers seem to love to include. One at Moroso Speedway in Florida is like this. You can do the first section pretty fast, but if you're not in good shape exiting it, you lose so much time in the second part that it negates your fast entry. Sears Point has one, too. If you can transition after exit of #3 back to the right, the aerial does make it look like there's daylight to the entry of #4. I always like to walk a track before I drive it. I don't know if we'll get a chance to do that, but we'll probably get a drive-around with an instructor where he'll stop to view each corner. It helps me to set up visual markers for turn-ins and exits. It's been especially important on hilly tracks. Coming over the top of a hill into a bend without a target in sight is spooky. (MidOhio has one of those!)

#4 appears to be a near constant radius exiting into an expanding radius turn where we will be able to feed throttle in as we exit. The very short shute into #5a might allow for a pass in a mixed field of cars, brakes and horsepower. With our cars being essentially equal, I'd guess this won't be a good place to try. 5a might be 3rd or maybe 2nd gear.

Maybe a possibility of a pass to 5b, but it's going to be really slow for both cars.

Getting the car under control and ready for #9 and #10 also looks very important for the start/finish shot. If you were out of shape heading into 9 there's really no way to recover gracefully by 10. It's hard to tell how they've handled the Pit Entrance there at #10. Can't tell if there's room to short-cut the corner or if one is forced to make a square corner of it.

I'm getting my motor runnin' just thinking about it!

Best regards, Tom
