yes -- I can agree with that -- he is in charge of good fortune -- when he lets me win MegaMillions I'll know that he has been listening

But he has blessed the USA -- in my lifetime

a - the carriers were at sea on 12/07/41
b - good weather prevailed on 06/06/44
c - We got the Abomb before the Nazis or the Russians
d - HST was FDRs last VP
f - Churchill was willing and able
g - Patton was allowed to be Patton

and Bush was elected -- not Gore

Although God is able to control everything

God DOES control everything, but in time and space, God does this through the rules of e=mc2

regarding hap's comet comment....."here is some stuff that god is not controlling directly"

a random occurrence such as a comet may seem out of step, but i guarantee that this specific comet, it's exact orbit, it's exact size, it's exact make-up, where it was a million years ago, and where it will be a million years from now (as with all other space bodies) is as readily known and commonplace to the celestial hosts and beings, as it is for us here on earth to know what time it is

He often chooses not to intervene in things and to instead to let what we set in motion play themselves out

it is a very rare occurrence when God intervenes in time and space, especially when He already did by establishing the rules of e=mc2 in the first place........besides, your statement borders on simplistic deism and trivializes the very nature of God

sometimes with just a bit of help or hinderence from Him as it suits His purposes.

hardly!.....you make the Almighty sound like a puppeteer, pulling strings based on whims........the greatest benefits that are readily available to us humans, are the natural result of the choices we make......."doing the right thing", whether in the pursuit of truth, knowledge, and understanding, or just a simple choice we make in day to day life, has amazingly profound consequences..........the same can be said for the natural misery that can come from making wrong choices, especially when we consciously make those types of choices.........kinda like gravity in a sense
