Hope you're enjoying your "cold spell." They promised us 5° this morning, but it's only 14... We had about an inch of snow last night. Still coming down, but supposed to end by around 9:00... no telecommuting. Boo Hiss.

Boss is only in for half a day today then off for a week to the tropics... YAY. Actually, she's been behaving lately. Don't know what happened, but I'm just enjoying it while it lasts.

Mercury in retrograde: The planet Mercury is named after the messenger of the gods. In astrology the planet rules communications as well as the signs Gemini (yours truly) and Virgo. Gemini uses Mercury to communicate with the world. Virgo tends to turn the communication inward and leans toward analytical and self-critical.

Three or four times a year, Mercury's orbit around the sun appears to slam into reverse so it looks like it is traveling backwards. It's an optical illusion that lasts for about three weeks every time it occurs... Kind of like two trains pulling out of the station at the same time... until the speeds are equal, one can appear to be moving backwards until it catches up and passes.

When Mercury looks like it is traveling backwards... Mercury in retrograde... communications breakdown... mail gets lost, phone calls are misdirected, computers act up... folks just can't seem to get their message across. It is usually a good time for introspection and review.

It is particularly hard on Geminis because it is our ruler moving in reverse. I try to ride with it... slow down... and make my moves more carefully so I don't overlook details at work.

Some would say it is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Could be. I've been following this stuff from a dilettante's POV for about 25 years. My layman's observation is that it is fairly accurate... one of the reasons I start the day reading about 6 different horoscope forecasts. They do not all say the same thing, but there is a pattern in the kind of energy they predict for the day. Keeps me on my toes... and reminds me to back off if folks in general seem to be getting testy.

This has been a rough retrograde around here... plus which we have a full moon on Saturday... roads are nuts... you are right about too many dang people... Our dimwit governor has declared war on sprawl... we'll see. Step one if I were in charge would be a freeze on road construction... maintenance only. Every time they widen a highway, you get more people in and then the traffic is even worse as it always spills over on to my beloved back roads.

So it goes.

Have a good one, coltie. Put on your longjohns and enjoy the cold!
