I certainly hope they do. But habits die hard. I can't remember the name of the electric company in France, but the WSJ ran a featured article about 6 weeks ago describing their pay and benefits. It include retirement at 50, full housing subsidy, 100% of their pay. The reason the article was written, as I recall, even in France some see the impossible circumstance.
I believe the USA is despised primarily because the "Continent" is in deep economic turmoil.
