I tend to agree that there are too many Mod spots. But, we also want anyone who is willing to participate to have the opportunity to do so. Let's see what evolves out of these changes and re-visit.
On some boards, Mods monitor the Assistant's actions. On the vast majority, that is not the case currently. This sounds silly in retrospect (something we should've done long ago), but we've just added a note for Admin on the TOS Report if the message we are viewing is from a Mod on the board. This gives us a better opportunity to counsel or warn Mods that the way they are conducting themselves is not within the Mod role.
IRPs are just like other Users here in terms of what their membership consists of. The only difference is that they are also legally disclosing that they have been compensated for awareness. We're not going to penalize the 40 or so people who are stepping up to the plate to disclose this by removing their ability to Moderate the boards as well. There are so many here who instead lurk in the shadows and don't disclose, it would be so unfair, imo.
Besides, people can be biased about the company (positively or negatively) - they just can't use that bias to moderate. :)
