Koikaze

Well, suh, as to the fust, that's a bit like askin' me why ain't ain't. KOI, as used in koikaze, refers to the heart ... and everyone knows that girls what act coy ain't got no heart.

As to the second, t'were us 'Merican types what put the "i" in "Kamikazi". The first "i" (in kami), I found, by diligent research, is properly placed. The second ain't not s'posed to be there. It's opposed to be an "e" ... kamikaze.

It is, I solemnly state, ka zeh, which rhymes with sa keh, a weak wine when made from rice, a brutal binge when made from 'taters ... sweet 'taters, I s'pose ... 'cause they're a staple on Okinawa. Used to buy a 6-ounce coke bottle full of that sweet 'tater type (dipped from a jerry can) fer 10-yen ... when yen were 360 to the dollar (MPC, actually, Military Payment Certificate) ... and I defy any o'you namby, pamby modern types to drink the whole six ounces.
