AA dropped more than 5% during the session, and were recently off 4.7% at $9.82.

The company said third-quarter earnings were 15 cents a share, up from $61 million or 6 cents a share a year ago, but the expectation is 22 cents a share in the third quarter. Instead, it earned 15 cents a share.. Sales rose to $6.42 billion from $5.29 billion a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet Research were looking for earnings of 22 cents a share on sales of $6.24 billion.
