one of the other problems with climate turbulence is that normally, forest ecosystems for example, there is always competition between the tree species, and which ones win and which ones lose is just an anthropomorphic thing... nature doesn't care. but in the past, since most species are adapted to change or else could move readily, like aspen following a retreating glacier, they could just move around to the more favorable microclimates for them.
But now, the habitats are so fragmented, that they cannot move about the landscape easily in many places. A particular species of oak, for example, might find crossing 20 miles of farmland as difficult as crossing the atlantic. So they are stuck in place, and during the first oscillation of change, if they cannot move or adapt as fast as the changes, and given their human barriers... adios, amigos!
