#6385 RE: StumpJumper #6380

Stumper: Applying some experience in the Utility business in the US, I read that Apollo is purely a Retail Electric Provider (REP). That means that they bill and collect money - little else. Therefore, they likely generate ZERO electricity. The big provider is the Ex-TXU generation arm - now independent and called LUMINANT... they are the biggest generating entity in Texas. My personal interpretaion on the decison to acquire Apollo number is that would provide direct access to a number of PRIME customers for retrofitting of homes. They are PRIME in the sense that a segment of any REP customers MAY own/occupy older homes. But, owners MAY also have 'less than perfect' credit risk...(see their Customer Agreement/Smart meter info). The older homes would likely benefit from an efficiency overhaul. But, that overhaul may often need to be financed with public assistance.

Notice Appolo's business model seems to be dependent upon smart meters to provide account and payment control for the REP... I know I may have missed something here - maybe a lot! I just wanted to highlight the fact that this is not a smaller-scale version of a traditional 'Public Utility'. I see it more like a "No-Contract celphone service" company that buys and sells airtime to a specific market segment (like Clear?) I will keep reviewing and will do a drive-by since Denton, TX is very close.

The Big Power generation entity in Texas is LIMINANT - Details:
