No not a con in the pure sense of the word. For any hoping for revenge with a class action lawsuit ... good luck. In hindsight one can go back to past PRs, and not find any outright falsehoods. They never stated they would be final owners of Berlin. They never gave earning estimates of $12M reoccurring revenue when the project was complete. Instead one had a lot unstated. Couple with Bart or his evil twin posting on this forum with a wink and a nod, and speculation ran wild.
There were a lot of misleading statements, and their website still is misleading. A quick pass might lead one to believe they are a company who intents to own N renewable power plants, operating them. Or the alternative interpretation...
Laidlaw Energy is engaged in the development of independent power plants that generate electricity from renewable resources
.
Seems true. As a project management firm they serve this function. They identify a potential project, seek potential owners to provide the funds. Then work for a project management fee to help bring the project online.
Then below:
Laidlaw Energy's business objective is to build and manage a profitable portfolio of renewable energy facilities through development, acquisition, conversion of existing facilities, and though partnering with manufacturing businesses that have significant energy needs. In so doing, Laidlaw Energy intends to become the leading provider of biomass power in the U.S.
Leading provider of biomass power in the US - sounds like they want to be owners of N-plants doesn't it. But if you consider Berlin - it fits this statement. Part of their portfolio to manage - as in manage any periodic bureaucratic reports which must be sent into the NH state agencies in the future, for a management retainer fee. They acquired the broiler, partnered with Cate, where development and conversion comes together, with Cate paying the cost.
It's going to be very difficult for any class action suit to prove wrong doing. Individuals invested with eyes wide shut. I'll plead guilty to that condition back in 08.
