The keyword is "disputed" land. Look, the Palestinian could have had a cantonized Israel if they settled for the partition, they did not, they could have had the 1948 borders in the 50', they wanted all of it, they could have had essentially the pre 1967 borders in just after the 67' conflict, not good enough, they had to try and get it all again with the Yom Kippur war (and almost had some...). The lesson is simple, thy have no "preordained" rights, just as those settlers have no preordained rights, sit down and make a deal, the Barak deal two years ago was pretty good, but now, because of the last two years, this deal is dead and any future deal will be less. When are they going to learn that time is not on their side? When are they going to make it the "law of their land" that they have no claim on any of Israel pre 1967 borders? They still have on their books the "from the sea to the river". How about their parliament coming u[p with something that say "a state roughly around the pre 1967 borders? as long as they are dedicated to the premise that Israel is by itself an "illegal state", the Israeli are going to treat them as an "Illegal" entity.

Sarai, by far, most of the population in the west bank is just seeking a place to live they can afford and are not hard core brooklyn settlers. Try talking to someone from the jenin area who lives there. real people are a good antidote for the organs of the press. zeev could well be correct about the high level strategy, but most of the people just would like a place to live. Last March I talked to someone who said the kids could not play outside becausue of the constatnt sniping by palestinin freedom fighters for the last several years while the kids were on the playground. this is the kind of thing CNN does not report. And this was well before the Israeli military moved into the west bank.
