I don't try to "doctor" people, but I do things like scaring the he** out of someone who was complaining about a cat scratch. I started describing gangrene to her. That evening she went into the ER and she was pre-gangrenous.
I can often sense mental illness in a stranger or an acquaintance, not just that something's wrong, but very specifically.
Some of it is empathy I'm sure, other times it's subliminal application of knowledge, but sometimes there is no explanation, like the time I said someone was having a "nervous breakdown" before I knew what the clinical definition was. ( The term is no longer considered clinically accurate though.)
