Psychiatrists usually treat on referral and don't talk to the patient enough to diagnose anything. The fact that the referral is usually for "depression" is one of the reasons that that's what they treat.

What makes it worse is that the majority of the time I already know what's wrong. I seem to have intuition of some sort that helps me know what is wrong with myself and others.

Doctors usually look anywhere but where you think the problem is coming from.

I once had food poisoning, was waitressing at the time and had just had a training class on sources of food poisoning. One common source is improperly cleaned meat slicers. I had a sliced meat sandwich a few hours before the onset of symptoms. Went into ER saying "I HAVE FOOD POISONING". The next morning they were ready to wheel me into surgery for an "atypical case of appendicitis".

I only lived two blocks away and I told them that I would walk home with my butt exposed in that gown before I let them cut me open. It was food poisoning and I was OK in a couple of days.

A word to the wise - NEVER eat lukewarm soup in a restaurant. Improper storage of soup in a walk-in results in a hot spot in the middle that grows bacteria. If it isn't heated up sufficiently before serving it you get food poisoning. Most people chalk it up to the "stomach flu" and never realize what caused it.
