Google's focus with the MMI acquisition relates mostly to hardware and wireless broadcast/reception IP. Just because one writer put it as "troll defense" or whatever doesn't make it so. And even if it were so, to suggest that it impacts NEOM is another giant assumption that can only reside in the realm of opinion. Another take is that because there are so many patent battles between the biggies, who all cross-license each other for various aspects of their IP portfolios, that adding the MMI portfolio facilitates faster settlements. Every single company in the space is involved in multiple suits, with fingers pointing in all directions. Consolidating IP makes it far easier to get all of it under control for better planning and forecasting and cost control. I'd bet that this acquisition will result in more settlements than it does new suits.
