Those two "facts' have nothing to do with your OPINION,

Google is doing this so that small companies like NeoMedia, and patent trolls, have a much harder time suing them.

Poptech, the numbers simply don't add up...

Google controls, or has an ownership stake, in 100s of thousands of patents.

From January of this year:

Quite often I talk to people who vastly "misoverestimate" the power of Google's portfolio. There's a popular belief that all major high tech companies own tons of patents, and many consider Google fairly innovative. But its patent portfolio is dwarved by those of its competitors.
(at that time in January Google owned 576 patents in total)

From July:

It’s no secret Google is searching for more patents to add to its portfolio. The search giant recently lost the bid for Nortel’s 6,000 mobile and wireless patents to a consortium of tech companies including Apple, Microsoft, RIM, and Sony. As my colleague MG Siegler wrote at the time, Google controls less than 1,000 patents, which is low compared to some of its competitors. Google currently owns 701 patents in total whereas Microsoft was granted 3,121 patents last year. Unfortunately, because Google doesn’t own a large number of patents, the company will continue to be vulnerable to patent lawsuits.

Here’s the math: Nortel’s portfolio of 6,000 patents went for $4.5 billion. Motorola Mobility has 17,000 patents and 7,500 in progress. In a nutshell, Motorola Mobility’s patent portfolio is roughly three times Nortel’s arsenal.

...17,000 patents, giving the search giant some much needed ammunition in the phone wars.

It's Motorola's more than 17,000 patents — a crucial weapon in an intellectual arms race with Apple, Microsoft and Oracle to gain more control over the increasingly lucrative market for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. "We believe this acquisition was solely driven by the ongoing patent war," Sanford Bernstein analyst Pierre Ferragu wrote in a research note, referring to the Google deal.

In other words, smaller companies are going to end up the pawns of the big patent portfolio holders even more than they are already.

Google also acquired ~1,000 patents from IBM.

Your number just doesn't add up.

Even if you add their (membership) in Intellectual Ventures which also includes Microsoft, Intel, Sony, Nokia, Apple, SAP, Nvidia and eBay, Reported statistics indicate over 30,000 purchased patents and applications and over 2000 internally-developed inventions.

You were correct that Neomedia is a SMALL company, so there is that...
