The markets should have stuck around the 8k range at that time so the extra 1400 point drop was pure manipulation by Washington, but you're right it presented itself as a great buying opportunity.

The extra point drop in March 2009 was largely driven by forced liquidations by hedge funds as a result of investor redemptions. The govt stimulus package and changes to TARP were approved in February 2009.

jbog, IMO the difference between a trader and an investor is poorly defined. What do you mean by it?

Every investment reached a point where it should be sold.

Mostly it seems the difference between a trader and an investor is one of how long one holds the trade.
