North Korea says US preparing to attack Pyongyang / June 02, 2005 3:43:35 PM IST
Pyongyang, June 2 : North Korea has slammed the US move to deploy 15 F-117 stealth bombers in South Korea stating that the "unpardonable provocation" proved that Washington was preparing to attack Pyongyang, reports Xinhua.
A spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said in a statement Wednesday that move was "an unpardonable provocation," according to Thursday's Rodong Sinmun, the organ newspaper of the Workers' Party of Korea.
"This proves that the US scheme of pre-emptive nuclear attack against the North is systematically going over from words to operational plan and from the plan to the stage of military action," said the statement.
The Pentagon decided to deploy 15 F-117A Nighthawk stealth fighters and 250 airmen this week from its air force base in New Mexico in the US to the Korean Peninsula, the US Forces Korea (USFK) said Wednesday.
The North Korean statement accused the US and South Korean military authorities of "spoiling the atmosphere of the grand reunification festival planned in Pyongyang for the fifth anniversary of the Joint Declaration".
"We, in the name of the whole nation, bitterly denounce the deployment of Stealth fighter bombers in south Korea by the US as a treasure shell of the provocation of a war against the north and the worst malicious challenge to the Korean nation," said the statement.
