LONDON, June 3 (Reuters) - The use of International Monetary Fund gold reserves to fund debt relief is still an option being considered by the Group of Eight industrial nations who meet in London next week, a UK Treasury official told Reuters on Friday.
British finance minister Gordon Brown has proposed selling or revaluing IMF bullion, the third largest reserves in the world, to raise cash to write off African countries' debts to international organisations.
But so far the plan has not received support.
"We remain determined to make progress on debt relief ... we are still looking at options including on gold reserves," the Treasury official said.
