Why Oh Why Are We Ruled by These Idiots? (Special California Edition)
Cory Doctorow finds this one:

Schwarzenegger creates, then fills Potemkin pothole: California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger dispatched a road crew to a residential street in San Jose to create a pothole, which he later turned up and filled, grinning for news-cameras and declaring his willingness to increase funding for transportation projects. The Potemkin pothole was later sealed by a roadcrew with a gigantic roller truck,

Porrovecchio and his business partner, Joe Greco, said that at about 7 a.m. they became fascinated watching '10 city workers standing around for a few hours putting on new vests,' all in preparation for the big moment with Schwarzenegger. But their street, he noted, didn't even have a hole to pave over until Thursday morning. 'They just dug it out,' Porrovecchio said, shrugging. 'There was a crack. But they dug out the whole road this morning.' 'It's a lot of money spent on a staged event,' said Matt Vujevich, 74, a retiree whose home faced the crew-made trench that straddled nearly the whole street. 'We still have the same problems. Everything's a press conference.'

well -- no one can know where the path not taken would lead -- it does seem like a disastrous policy for the libs/dems/lefties to continue their anti-war rhetoric in face of history: [not to mention that the war will be a big factor in 2006 and 2008]
=================
For our muslim loving libs:

In 1979, the US embassy in Iran was stormed and American embassy staff was held hostage for 444 days buy muslim extremists. Finally, an American was elected President and they were released.

In 1982, the US Embassy in Beirut was bombed by muslim extremists.

In 1983 the US Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by muslim extremists.

In 1985, an Italian cruise ship, the Achille Lauro was seized and a 69 year old American in a wheelchair was killed by muslim extremists.

In 1986 a West Berlin discotheque frequented by US servicemen was bombed by muslim extremists.

In 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by muslim extremists.

In 1993 the WTC was bombed by muslim extremists.

In 1995 5 Americans were killed by a car bombed by muslim extremists.

In 1996 a US Air Force Housing complex in Saudi Arabia was bombed by muslim extremists.

In 1998 US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by muslim extremists.

In 2000 our Navy ship the USS Cole was attacked by muslim extremists.

On September 11, 2001 more than 3000 Americans were murdered in a savage terrorist attack on US soil by muslim extremists.

In 2002 Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC was terrorized with even children being targets by muslim extremists snipers.

Anyone notice any common denominator?

How would invading Iraq in 1998 have stopped 911?

obviously there are no guarantees, but it is highly probable that invading iraq in '98, and thus moving into war mode, would have created entirely new security measures regarding the security of our borders, and within our borders...........this heightened security status would have made it extremely difficult, if not impossible, for the unchecked movement of the 9-11 hijackers before the event occurred

in addition, in the very same manner that the iraqi insurgency and the foreign terrorists are fighting against freedom now, had an invasion of iraq been done in '98, freedom in the middle east would be five years further along then we are now......on top of that, knowing now that all of the terrorists resources are focused in iraq, there is the likelihood that neither time nor resources would have been available for them to carry out the 9-11 attack, since they would be busy fighting in their own backyard, instead of carrying out an attack in our backyard

it could have been a real legacy for clinton, and gore would have won hands down in 2000..........but of course, hindsight is no sight, and it's not like the dems have ever had any vision anyway
