The police can still do that now. All it takes is for them to think that you are a danger to yourself or to others. The system for checking people is already in place too; the courts. Nothing new is needed, so tax increases are unnecessary.

There is a third alternative. Families who want to commit a relative to an institution should be able to do so with a psychiatrist's recommendation and a court order. Constitutional spending never enters the picture because the federal government should not be involved.
