that can be used to test not only that the genetic modifications have been made, but also that they were inserted *into*the*correct*site* and within 48 hours of completing the insertions.

That is about as sure as you can get. The successful insertion is a highly significant step and important news on its own that fully merits a PR.

As for you "not being able to rely on what he [Kim] says" I would submit that is probably a direct consequence of your not wanting to "read all the words" and therefore having expectations that simply don't fit with what was actually said. Without getting all the relevant details it is very easy to make false deductions or assumptions leading to unrealistic expectations as to how events can or may unfold.

we were all looking for some kind of update in the cc and that is what he did. He gave an aproximate time line for commercialization and told us what is happening with the ZFs. If he truly wants to run off the competition, then I think he will release news as it occurs. It seems to me that time delays would encourage competition to keep trying. I would look for confirmation of 98% spider's silk as soon as he himself is certain that we have it. What they are doing with the ZFs is still research. It has never been done before to this extent on silkworms; therefore, doing it on the first try might be expecting too much. But when it is done, perhaps he will say that N.D. has confirmed and they have sent off for independant confirmation. That would certainly discourage me if I was competing, and it would also give the pps a boost a few weeks in advance, and then another boost with independant confirmation.
