I suspect that making the silk far stronger than pure spider silk refers to adding metal to the silk. That's been proven to work using an ADM (which I believe refers to an atomic deposition machine or similar) but I suspect biological methods would work better.
In fact I've got an idea along that line I may try myself if I can get some silkworms. If it works I'll put in a patent application and see if I can sell it to KBLB for some upfront shares and a bit of royalty.
