As of September 2011 the US FDA requires cig mfgrs to display graphic effects of smoking on their cig packages...Will it deter most people determined to ruin their health by smoking? Nobody can save someone from themself but if it helps just a few people think twice about the harmful effects on their health from smoking, that's a start.
Why such a harmful drug as nicotine is still allowed in the market place while other drugs are deemed illegal is a nat'l disgrace and demonstrates the clout of the tobacco industry.

... Big Tobacco murdered people for decades. And murder is not too strong of a word for it. They knew since the early 1950s, maybe even earlier, that they had a product that was addicting people and was killing people. And they continued to sell it and market it, and then they marketed it to kids. And they covered up and lied. For decades. It’s amazing to me that not one person has ever spent a day in jail for it.
