No one more than al Sadr wants an united front against the U.S.
His enemy is first and foremost the U.S.
Sadr can't be classified well because he is his own centerpoint.
What can we say from moments of speech we capture from him or from a close associates.
Nothing verbatim, so i juse 'xxx' not "xxx".
My sources are impossible to give, i have great trust in my vacuum cleaner mind, others need not have that trust----but don't complain, it is how i operate, just take it or leave it.
All quotes capture the essense of what was spoken.
' What are my plans for the future? I change, I unjust, I adapt, I think, so don't ask me what my plans are for the future'
To Sistani, 'Let me be the warrior and i will give you Iraq on a golden platter'
' It is wise we retreat now only fools fight losing battles, we will return again when we are ready'
' I want Iraq for Iraq, not for Al Queda, all loyal to Al Queda be my enemy' and he gave out a proclamation that was passed around that placed all Baathist, Foreigner Wannabe/AlQueda as enemies of Iraq and it is permissable to kill them
' These attacks on the Shi'ites it is not real Sunni, it is forces only wanting civil war, we must not give them a civil war; our enemy be the forces of the occupation'
'The Mahdi Army is bigger than me, it is a force of itself, the Hidden Imam is already here.'
'The Mahdi reject suicide as a weapon, we have people volunteering to do suicide attacks all the time, and we say no, the Mahdi does not do suicide, our object is to win, not to blow ourselves up'
'I have no interest in a global movement, our problem is here, it is Iraq, i am just about Iraq'
'Unity between non-Baathist loyalist Iraqi Sunni and the Shi'ite is needed to drive out the occupation'
But i have never seen him divert ever from 'Iraq must be based on Islamic Law'
I have yet to hear him speak of the Kurds, either for good or ill.
There is a subtle line betwen al Sadr and Iran, Muqtada is an Arabic Shi'ite, Iranians are Persian Shi'ites----the signifigance of this line is there but i don't know how significant, except he always has displayed a strong Iraqi Nationalist view.
Most importantly Muqtada now, and for some time, since the retreat from Najaf, communicates only through associates.
As best i know no one but his closest associates know where he is, he knows full well he is in the top three on the U.S., 'to be removed with extreme prejudice by whatever means be needed' list.
What would the most stunning and intelligent thing the hard core Baathist could do, that would be to give up on nihilism, and the view if we can't rule, no one will, and seek an alliance with Sadr and make an oath of unity between them and the Shi'ites.
But this is like asking a leopard to change its spots, i do not believe they can, the hardcore Baathist see themselves as The Elite--they are evil men with evil pasts, i don't think they will ever form a common cause with the Mahdi Army, who spring from the tortured ground of the poorest Shi'ites, to hardcore Baathist these Shi'ites are good only to be slaves to their Elite, secular totalitarianism.
The hardcore Baathist would sooner ally themselves to the United States before they respect a Shi'ite.
Maybe they already have formed links with the U.S. and the Delta Force, that ever secret and dark 'carte blanche' Delta Force.
I dare say the Delta Force has the fanaticism and dedicated purpose of an S.S. unit.
This leaves Sadr with a near impossible task of drawing the Iraqi Arab Sunnis to his side as they seperate from the remaining hardcore Baathists.
I still see chaos and civil war.
