I admit there was a power vacuum that the US did not enter. do you think the US could have done anything during the reign of the warlords and then the taliban? What government would they have provided aid to?
They did provide massive amounts of food aid during this time through the UN. whether it was an inflated number or was shipped or distributed properly is unknown.
In counterpoint, why blame the US? Why didnt the UN provide these facilities? why not blame france or britian or iraq or algeria or Iran?
If you want me to say the US is not perfect, I will agree. If you want me to say they probably screwed up by allowing a situtation to come to a head in Afganistan that was not good, I would agree. But I do not beleive the USA is all powerful and I am not sure that the USA could have provided roads that went somewhere other than training camps, schools that did not teach religious courses etc.
