Sarai, I think you are wrong, look at who signed a peace agreement with Egypt, if not that "old terrorist" Menahem Begin (head of Etzel and then leader of Herut and later Likud). Just as "only Nixon" could open China, "only Sharon can make peace may turn out to be right. Golda Meier tried for years to make peace with Sadat but to no avail, only after she let Sadat and Assad attack without preempting them in the Yom Kippur war, and then defeated them again, did Sadat finally come to the peace table.

If Arafat really want peace, he could have had such many times over. It seems he still believes himself his own demagoguery that he can get it "all", namely from the river to the sea.

sarai, I agree with most of your post, and you can be damned sure Sharon and others are trying to do their best. I am surprised that you think it is not being done.

Its the middle east, where israeli former mossad agents work with Arafat to launder money out of the EU and put into Arafats bank account so the they can get a piece from the sales of flour and cement. Despite all the rage and horror, the israelis are still paying the entire electricity bill of the west bank and gaza. and the cell network. there are no power stations on the west bank or gaza because they never got built since the oslo accords, despite money to do so.

While there are some hardline Israelis whou would prefer to have all the palestinians vanish, the majority of the arab world would prefer to have israel vanish. Its about 300 million to 10000. there is truth to what you say, but not the numbers.
