You are completely wrong. Israel armed a local milizia in the Palestinian Authority, for the sole purpose of implementing the same policy Ben Gurion Implemented upon the creation of the state of Israel, eliminate terrorism. Arafat decided that what he could not get at the negotiation table he'll get via terrorism. Israel has no choice but to make sure that no terror act result in political concessions. Until two years ago, the Palestinians in the territories had the best standard of living amongst all the Arab nations (except few minorities in oil drenched countries), they were on their way to get a state of their own, but Arafat, as Aba Eben stated many years ago, has not missed losing any single opportunity to make peace and settle the dispute. Do you know that Arafat executed people that were moving from the refugee camps to nice dwelling built for them by the European community and the Israeli? Why, so that the fires of discontent do not die. The world is obsequious to Arafat's malfeasance, and he is using his innocent brethern as cannon fodder in his quest to eradicate the state of Israel. No independent state would allow an enemy to plan its eradication without an appropriate response. The rise of the Likud party was not accidental, it was a result of Arafat's own actions and lack of actions.
Arafat, Hammas and Hizbulah (and Islamic Jihadd and few other terror organizations) are operating on the wrong hypothesis that "time is on their side". Wrong, the longer it takes to settle the problems there, the smaller a foot print a future Palestinian State will have. Right now, it is quite possible that Arafat is completely closing the last opportunity for the creation of such a state.
