I still think a lot of that is political foreplay. Germany (as of lately) loves to be the "pioneer" in Europe. Good and bad. I'm sure they'll toss large chunks of cash at solar, wind, and water projects but we all know how that is literally unable to meet modern power demands. Cost/benefit ratio is terrible currently with the renewable sources(in regards to giving up useful land, amount of power per $, etc). While I think its wise to move towards it, the industry as a whole is barely ready to power small midwestern US towns--let alone a whole modern country.

I'm sure they will buy power from France for a little while and either some massive breakthrough in renewable power comes through and saves the day (highly unlikely) or the people eventually are like "WTF?" and pissed that they're throwing cash at the French for something they could readily supply themselves for cheaper (and keep more jobs in Germany). Either way, I agree if France continues to supply their power and more--we will see more investments in Nuclear energy by France (good for us) or an eventual backlash from the German people who will then go on a little splurge to refit their country with Nuclear Power (also good, but further away).

It may just be a political ploy for them to buy time (and a re-election?) and then come out with a statement saying they have "substantially safer" nuclear policy and infrastructure in place.
