In Florida you can find all of that information on the Property Appraisers web site for the county in which the property is located. We called it the Papa site. It will show all past, and current owners, what the sale price was, what the appraised value is, it will even show refi's and quit claims. It's a public site and anyone can access the info. I'm sure there is a very similar site for the various counties in Cali.
