President Obama did not "slobber over" Ryan. It's called strategy. Look up the transcript of the 2010 Republican Retreat in Baltimore and read it, especially the last part.
What Obama actually did was to feed Ryan's ego and encourage him to crawl way out on the Republican right wing limb. In May of 2011, the limb was neatly sawn off by the Administration, then carted away by the election in NY26.
Republicans are vicious, but they are also stupid.
