#5956 RE: treit2002 #5955

I just realized something after doing some research. We Americans may be thinking of the traditional long green stalks we find in the produce section of our local Safeway ($1.99/lb on sale at height of season), however if you Google "wholesale price of asparagus in China" you'll find they use it as an herbal medicine, even face creams! Check this out...

Chinese Herbal Extract, Radix Asparagi P.E., cochinchinese asparagus root P.E.,standard extract, high quality, high standard, Unit Price: US $32.99 - $34.54 / kilogram

2 LB asparagus tuber / tian men dong, Unit Price: US $52.63 / piece

WOW!!!

We could be thinking about this all wrong. The asparagus farm could be raking in BIG BUCKS depending on what kind of asparagus they plan to grow.

Strindberg, or someone attending the presentation in Sweden, PLEASE ask about this? Ask them to elaborate on what exactly they are planning to grow.

The herbal variety makes a lot more sense as it gets dried and made into a powder form, and the HU facility was designed to dry flowers (as opposed to cold storage which is what you'd need for the type we Americans think of...long green stalks you steam and have with your chicken dinner).

This could turn out to be a very shrewd and profitable sideline business.

Just my Saturday morning ramblings... :-)
