demand for hardware is stagnating
The demand for computer technology is stagnate because most businesses don't have a pot to piss in just like the consumers and large businesses alike.
Yesterday morning I had meeting with large insurance agency. I missed the excelllent opportunity in stock market with gap and crap for what hopefully will be similar opportunity for my business. The customer needs to upgrade his 7 servers he's accumulated over the years to corrodinate backups and off site replication of data. By being penny wise pound foolish, he gets a bigger problem management wise every time he adds new service and server. I sent out an engineer this morning to document his configuration and after 30 seconds of discussion, I estimated that he needs $40-50K of upgrades to do the job the right way.
Knowing this economy and the customer, I think he will find some unemployed consultant to put in nickel and dime solution to "acheive in his head" what needs to be done but actually it will just now work. I expect him to be bambozzeled by lowest cost operator since he the guy who told me he was getting to retire in 99 based upon his brokers recommendation of JDSU and his overweight position in it. <g>
