As a thought one one of the subjects you addressed today, I am thinking that maybe part of the discrepancy in the count of shareholders is that some people, including myself hold shares of the same company in multiple accounts. At times, the shares in one or more accounts held by the same individual may be sold, or the individual may buy some shares in an additional account. Although I have been accumulating, some people might be flipping.

Of Course one entity may be taking a more thorough look at the shareholders as to whether their shares are in one or multiple accounts, and that would reflect a more accurate count of how many individuals are holding a particular stock, but the picture could change rapidly enough that any accounting would soon be off. That, however, may not explain a very large discrepancy, as seems to exist. I'd be interested in seeing the real picture.
