I bought my first app yesterday to see how the store worked. When I went to download the app onto my iPad it wouldn't work, so I emailed support and got a quick reply. Apparently, the apps are meant to download to PC so that they can be bought by people without smart phones. If I wanted it to download to my iPad (or iPhone), I needed to press the "iphone/ipad" button which would have linked me to the iTunes store. For some reason, I never thought about PC users buying these apps. I was able to download onto my PC, then I synced it down to my iPad (app was a pdf ibook). This experience, was able to at least clear up some confusion I had with how the store works. It also explains, when you link from one of the non-iOS platforms, and gives you the list of 25 apps, that these apps are for downloading onto PCs..... for now. Maybe this was obvious to everybody else, but I sure wish they could have explained all this a bit better. Hopefully, we'll start seeing more visible progress soon, as your post implied.
