Having read more articles in Indian medical journals than I care to think about in recent weeks, I think a lot of it has to do with lack of training in proper study protocols or proper statistical/epidemiologic methods. It amazes me to repeatedly see studies reporting data without using intent-to-treat analysis or reporting on the number of people excluded for poor compliance. As you said though, diabetes is and will be a HUGE problem on the South Asian sub-continent.

In all honesty, this is one of the reasons why I stay away from investing in diabetes, pain, and obesity drug companies. I just think a LOT of these trials have rule benders, and I just feel like there is always some sort of "kink" in the way the trial is designed, or the way the data is read, or something.

Just my observation. Perhaps I've just had some bad luck in the past and really don't understand those indications all that much. Or, perhaps not.
