EnCana announces major new shale play

EnCana Corp. on Wednesday touted a new shale gas play in Alberta that could eventually rank alongside bigger North American plays in British Columbia, Louisiana and Texas.

Speaking on a conference call to discuss first-quarter results, company officials said EnCana has acquired almost 100,000 hectares over the Duvernay shales in the west central region of the province near Whitecourt and Fox Creek, which is prospective for liquidsrich natural gas.

Note, basic that the ounces of gold needed to buy a barrel of oil
(0.11 ounces) has not changed since 2001, even though the number
of fiat dollars needed to buy an ounce of gold or a barrel of oil has
almost tripled since 2001 (2.8 times more dollars needed now).
