I don't know about the midwest, but here in CA the vast majority of farmland is owned by corporations. Keep in mind that there is a huge farming community up around Salinas, all corporately owned. Hundreds of miles of vegetable farms. Here is SoCal it's primarily Citrus. It is all computerized irrigation, with corporate employees monitoring the supervisions and computer systems. And there is no need for farmers. The labor is migrant farm workers. If you drive the 101 from Poso Robles to Salinas, you will pass literally hundreds of white school busses moving the migrant workers from spot to spot.
