I read yesterday that the MMs are often paid by hedge funds to manipulate the stock price.

Also, I've noticed that the quoted BID/ASK usually does not show my actual bid or ask price. My broker says this is probably legitimate trading, but I wonder if they really know or care about what's truly going on with the MMs.
