Yes, what he got is likely Icynene. In the room addition, they sprayed it about 6 inches thick (it expands as it cures) then shaved it flush with the joists. The main reason we went with it was the weird spacing on the joists. But the heat and sound insulation are great benefits of it.

I like the stuff so much that if I end up with a lot of money burning a hole in my pocket, I'll cut out all the Low-E insulation in the workshop (Icynene won't stick to it) and have them spray that building. They gave me a bid of $12k to do it.

Would've been better to go that route to begin with after the cost of Low-E ($175 for each of about 30 rolls that went into it) and the big increase in labor to put that stuff on with the siding. Plus, we probably would've ended up with a much higher R value for the building, far less air infiltration and far better sound-dampening.
