Hey ergo_sum, Dutchess County facility, 33.3% waste.

They have an incinerator, operated privately and it is costly, they had to approve a $14,800,000 bond to pay for upgrades in 2007.

Check out the waste numbers from the incineration:

The combustion process at the Facility produces approximately 50,000 tons of ash residue from the combustion of approximately 150,000 tons of MSW.

With 33.3% waste they paid the following in transportation and landfill costs:

In 2008, the total cost for residue transport and disposal was $2,396,626.00 or $47.93 per ton of residue.

This does not indicate the amount of waste released into the air.

I want to be clear, this technology is not all bad, electricity is produced for profit but I don't know how much of a money maker it is if the county has to issue large bonds to pay for upgrades. My belief is still firm the JBI is a better alternative for plastic, little waste produced, next to no emissions. The Dutchess county facility requires a Title V Facility Permit and JBI needs only a Air State Facility Permit.
