david_3011, Russell is wrong, NOT everyone loses in the bear market, i.e. great traders (granted maybe only 10%) will be (heavily) short during the bear market - and make out like bandits.

for every seller there has to be a buyer, and for every buyer there has to be a seller, so someone is ALWAYS taking the opposite side of the transaction (i.e. taking the opposite bet).
