#18237 RE: dotell #18236

Dotell, I see that you continue to favor hydrogen. What sort of configurations do you have in mind? For example, do you favor using hydrogen as a transport fuel or for stationary power? I don't hide my apprehension about this means of energy storage. But I am curious to know your perspectives.

Since I'm on the topic, I'll discuss my perspectives. First, we seem to agree that power generation needs to be decentralized. Ideally, I would see small scale cogeneration power plants that optimize the use of waste heat. The WHE is a good option (although, IMO these should be scaled down further for most residential applications). I continue to believe that biomass is an ideal fuel here. Of course, I'm looking far into the future. In 20 years I see a big market in the processing of biomass for fuel. With the proper incentives in place (read: sustained high oil and natural gas prices) this will come into being quickly.

In some regions solar thermal is ideal. Many regions could use both solar and biomass. I haven't seen any specs on the SOLAR I, but I suspect that its efficiency will be a lot higher than the WHE (just a hunch). I see cost effective means of heat storage being developed that will optimize the use of waste heat in the solar thermal application. For stationary power, this will make the production of hydrogen obsolete. There are very exciting prospects here.

For transport fuel I'm on board with a Cyclone Mark V using whatever fuel is most cost effective to include natural gas, propane, petrol, coal slurry, algae, ethanol, etc.
