I buy at bid on many stocks. I buy at ask when I want in fast.

Bid whackers have helped market makers forever. They think they are buying cheap shares when what they are doing is helping the market maker take the price down. Of course you don't have to be a whacker. The market maker sells to you at bid and you become his helper.
