Note 6: "Related Party Transactions" unaudited annual financial statements for the period ending Sept. 30, 2010 (posted Jan 3, 2011).

There are any # of reasons why he might have converted pref's (he's been 'converting' for a while, including commons to pref's). The #1 reason is because he can (so one must expect that he will), there may also be tax reasons, and, yes, he may very well have done it to sell some.
