Well, Apple does a good job in launch, logistics and marketing.
My experience with the iPad is that it sells itself. If you're reasonably technical, you can just order on online or buy one in Best Buy. If you want to play around with it or have questions, just go to an Apple Store where you can see an eight-year old kid using it. Then you can say that if a little kid can use it, then you can too.
Apple sells phones at their stores too so they have the sales and technical expertise right at the store for phone-like devices. AT&T also sells the iPhone but I think that App support is probably subpar.
There's always the Microsoft Store for Windows tablets.
