#98576 RE: smooth2o #98571

ARM is the incumbent in cell phones, not in PCs and servers
which is where all the recent ARM hype is focused.

More to the point, Transmeta was thought by some to have
a huge advantage over Intel x86 in low power processing.
A strong sense of deja vu or what? All the Transmeta hype
did was focus Intel's attention to address this segment, a
fatal outcome for the one time golden child.

ARM is getting all the attention in the spotlight these days.
I predict in a few years they will sorely wish they hadn't
gone so far out of their way to wave a red cape before the
bull. They could reach for PCs, fail, and lose the smart
phone market in the bargain.

For computer users Transmeta did a wonderful thing - it
brought forth Banias and the Centrino platform. I expect
great new processors to come out of Intel as a result of
this new challenger. That won't be so wonderful for the
challenger of course.
