If you read Intel's comments, the ONE thing they were concerned with was their......<drum roll> ...customers! Yes, folks, they checked with their customers to see if they wanted to get dragged into this mess or not. NOT!

"So, OK, we gonna lose any orders over it?" "Nah, just give us the discount and take that one piece of the statement out".

Same business, same market share...

And the customer still is the beneficiary.

you are conveniently ignoring the fact that is was dependent on reducing business with AMD. There is nothing wrong with discounts which have nothing to do with your competitor's business with that OEM.
