If no one previously drilled on the "old dogs" as you call them, then they could not have known what was really in the ground. So stop implying that the previous claim holders could somehow "know" they were no good and cast them aside.
If the KATX properties were drilled like swiss cheese, and then aquired, you would have a point. But that is simply not the case.
